Colossians 1:15-20

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”

We’ve moved!

01Oct10

The Team Nexus Blog has moved from this site to here.

We’ve got a great new look and regular stories, photos and behind-the-scenes detail of our great church – check it out today!

Romans 15:5-7

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”

This term in Kids Church we have been learning about the Fruits of the Spirit. We recently discovered that the Holy Spirit gives us different gifts.

Romans 12:5, 6 says, “So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts.

This verse makes me think about the many volunteers we have in Kids Ministry who help out each week.

On Sundays we have leaders who look after babies in the crèche, greet and sign in children and new families, look after our ‘bus kids’, serve breakfast, play instruments and lead worship, teach, pray with children, help with craft activities and object lessons, run games and lead small groups.

On Tuesdays our leaders look after toddlers, teach and do craft with young children while their mums enjoy Connections.

Every second Thursday young mums from our church and the wider community meet together for Playgroup which is run by the incredibly creative Danielle Freeland.

Other volunteers help with our Breakfast Program and RE in our schools each week. We are also very thankful for a couple of ladies who give their time each week to help us out with administration tasks.

Kids Church leaders…you are awesome! Thank you for using your gifts to invest into the lives of our kids here at Nexus. You truly demonstrate ‘the body’ in action!

Our Senior Pastors are enjoying a very well-deserved break in New Zealand this week. Here’s a little hello from Jane:

Murray and I holidaying in Queenstown. Having my hubby to myself is wonderful. It’s very cold and we are loving it all!!!!!

Love and hugs to you all,

Love Jane

Pray that Murray and Jane would have an amazing time away and return feeling completely rested!

Ruth Limkin writes:

I am facilitating one of the electives at Pathways – a one day seminar called “Transforming Relationships” – and I’d love to tell you a little about it!

The assessment and seminar have been used by churches and ministries worldwide to help strengthen their leaders, teams, marriages and families. It helps you to understand how you and others are wired up, what friction those differences can cause, and how to understand each other and work together well.

Before you arrive for the seminar, you’ll do a 10 minute online assessment which will generate a 23 page personalised report. Thousands of people undertake these assessments every week in the States alone and there are over 19,000 possible profiles generated by the assessment.

The Nexus team worked through this earlier in the year and this is what some of what they said:

I felt validated for who I was and empowered to be myself. I loved seeing how being different helps fill a gap that wouldn’t be filled if I was trying to be someone I wasn’t. – Liz

It was confirmation and affirmation of my known working strengths and styles and also provided a good check as to whether or not you’re in a role suited to your skill sets. I found it to be a fantastic tool for evaluating team effectiveness and roles and it was very good for helping me to understand others who don’t work or think like I do. – Alan

It really helped me realize how differently we are all wired and that everyone has something unique and so important to offer to our team. – Laura

This helped me realise that a person’s background, and their suitability for the role they are can contribute to whether they are operating from their strengths or weaknesses. As we understand the other person, we can highlight their strengths and understand their weaknesses and work more effectively together. – Jocelyn

The Hub is alive with the sound of jackhammers, trucks, shovels and other construction-like equipment.

And while it’s far from melodious, it’s actually all rather exciting! Why? Because it’s the sound of preparing the site for the prayer chapel. We have been told by ATCO that the prayer chapel will arrive on site at the end of this month, ready to then have the fit out and on-site work done.

Continue to pray for Alan and Mark as they work hard to bring the chapel to a place of readiness.

Romans 12:9-13

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

Brisbane School of Supernatural Ministry has a new elective running in Term 4.

The class notes are getting prepared at the moment – here’s a sneak peek.

And of course, like most things at Nexus, it requires the hard work of a great volunteers like Phoebe.

Thanks Phoebe!

Our team in Tanzania are well, and busy!

Here’s a short snippet from an email that Sarah sent back.

“The last three days have been truly amazing! They have been incredibly long days but so fulfilling! We leave about 7 each morning and drive two hours out on this bumpy dirt road to visit Shirati where there are three different Compassion projects that Nexus sponsors. Saturday was the first visit to the projects and I’d probably only been there a few minutes before I was covered in beautiful African children!! They are so incredibly cute!!!!

Meeting my sponsor child was incredible as well! At first she was a little shy but she warmed up once we got to her house. It is quite a surreal to see them face to face – especially when they know you and bring out the letters that you have written.”

Keep praying for the team – for protection and health and effectiveness!
